Statement of Purpose/About Us
My Friend the Midwife knows that the heart of midwifery is to be ‘with women’. Our mission is to empower women with knowledge. Through this website we would like to achieve our mission in three ways. First by promoting the ‘Midwifery Model of Care’ and providing educational posts for women about healthy pregnancy and birth that include their options for prenatal care, types of providers and birthing venues.
Next we want to provide a discussion forum where women and providers feel safe and without judgment to share their stories, fears and triumphs. This can be done by emailing us at my myfriendthemidwife@gmail.com with your story/guest blog for us to review and post or by requesting an interview with us over the phone or in person. We ask respectfully that no post puts down or criticizes another woman or provider or their philosophy on birth. Stories that we deem disrespectful to others in our ‘Birth Community’ will not be shared. Our site also provides links to other informational sites and blogs, books, recipes and soon advertisements that we at “My Friend the Midwife” support and believe in. We promise to never sell or promote anything on our page that we would not use ourselves.
Lastly we are in the process of writing an e-Book based on an idea we devised called “Birth Mapping”. Birth Mapping is our vision of perfecting the infamous ‘Birth Plan’. The goal is to assist women in mapping out their philosophy on pregnancy and birth and what feels safe for them through this process. Because it’s a map you can choose a few different paths over just one, creating flexibility and shared decision-making between the woman and her provider. Allowing for care with as little intervention as possible, relying on ‘best practice’ and the safest most effective care possible, and empowering women by respecting their rights and decisions during pregnancy and childbirth.
My Friend the Midwife believes that it is your right to inform and educate yourself on options for care during your pregnancy and birth. We support the belief that every woman deserves a midwife. Even when some women also need a doctor for pregnancy problems, all women deserve the holistic support of an ongoing relationship with a midwife, who will be with them no matter what.

This site is a WONDERFUL service and FABULOUS venture!
I visited about a month ago; but I like the homepage even more now with your photo.
There’s a CNM student at your alma mater to whom I’ll recommend your site. She’s excited about Midwifery, but nervous about the real world after graduation. I know your site will be encouraging and uplifting.
Keep up the excellent work!
